Bee.

Random photograph of  a bee, i love bees, i think they're charming little insects.

Im going to draw this and turn it into a tattoo and get it done on my shoulder so people can see it when they're banging me from behind...just kidding. (that was too far)

M-Exhibition.

This is my contribution to my years recent "M-Exhibition". The exhibition was a great success......but i wish id contributed to the planning of it more.

The two pieces are a watercolour portrait of my friend Cristina (see below for more images) and a watercolour diptych of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan done using only one colour, its called "It's All Over Now Baby Blue"...because its a Dylan song that Baez covered...and because theyre blue...im so fucking cool sometimes.

(its also about time i did another art related post and not one about cats, women i find attractive or someother random shite)

Cats.

I miss my cats, i miss my cats more than i miss my mum and my sisters. Cats make everything better.

Jackie Morris.

Morris is a watercolour illustrator, her work is lovely but on the safe side, i don't mean that in a derogative way.

This Is Beautiful.

Apparently it's an illustration of a syphillis sore from around 1900, it may be syphillis but its quite lovely bruv.

Heres To You Elizabeth Taylor.

It's bizarre that you can just wake up and find out that such an icon is dead.

Heres Taylor in the film adpatation of Tennesse William's play "Suddenly Last Summer". Its a fantastic play, one of his best, all to do with mental illness, homosexuality and cannibalism. brilliant, beautiful play.

Just Above My Head.

I'm reading Just Above My Head by James Baldwin, its incredible, one of the best books i've ever read, he tackles issues such as homosexuality, abuse, racism, incest but in a such a mature and beautiful way.

Joan Baez also mentioned him in her song "Altar Boy And The Thief". Anyone Joan loves i love...

And megalols its a penquin book.

Penguin Books.

Theres something about a penguin book that just feels right, its like being in a book shop, it feels like nothing can go wrong in a book shop, same as when you're reading a penguin book.

In Cold Blood Covers.

In Cold Blood.

In keeping with my reknewed idea of illustrating Capote's works, heres some images of Perry Smith, one of the two murderers from the Non-Fiction novel In Cold Blood.

...I slightly fell in love with when i was reading the book, for a murderer he is pretty adorable.

Heres to you Perry, you little (psychopathic) babe.

Just Because...

Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Mimi Farina and Mama Baez.

Hable Con Ella.

And some pictures of a chalk self portrait my mum did years ago. All of her proper stuff has been sold, and she doesn't do much artwork anymore so this is about all there is left, i still think its lovely though.

The pictures aren't great but hell bitch im not a fucking photographer.

Todo Sobre Mi Madre.

Heres some photos of my mum's aforementioned copy of one of Modigliani's works. Personally i think its better than his, but im totally biased, also this hangs above our dinner table and it always has, so basically ive been looking at tits and a minge over my dinner since i was born.

Paul Emsley.

Emsley is an artist who works mainly in oils and chalk, his works have a very beautiful ethereal quality created through the delicate patches of light and shade in his work.

good images of his work are hard to find on google, but the pictures on his website are superb.

Group Crit 16/03/2011

Really interesting and helpful group crit today. The problems i was feeling with using watercolour have now been dispersed and i'm now quite confident in continuing on with the idea of Capote Illustration. Maybe working with "In Cold Blood" instead of "Other Voices, Other Rooms" as the characters are much darker and complex.

The main point i got from todays crit was that, yes watercolour is an incredibly traditional medium and is often thought of as twee or old fashioned but if i can contrast this medium with harder more graphic subjects then it will become very contemporary and successful. Think Cherry Hood's portraits of child prostitutes in "Harold's End" (see earlier posts on Hood's work)

Also was introduced to the work of Edward Burra and George Grosz.

This has all made me feel less apocalyptic.

CAH-POE-TAY.

Yes its damn fucking late to be coming up with a proper idea for my brief but ive decided to create a series of watercolour portraits (surprising i know) of people styled as characters from Truman Capote novels and short stories. It will probaly be a shitting disaster but right now im excited. This will bring together my two main interests which are Art and Literature (LIES its art and sex).

I love Capote, if he wasn't dead and a total freak i'd probaly marry him.

And here is my babe smouldering on the cover of his debut novel "Other Voices, Other Rooms"

Saint Joan.

I've started a painting of Joan Beaz and its the first painting i've done in ages that actually looks good. Baez makes everything better.

Adele.

I want to do a portrait of Adele, i think shes gorgeous and her music is fantastic, few people can do Dylan justice but her version of "Make You Feel My Love" equals his.

And "Someone Like You" just makes me cry its fantastic.

She is damn fine.

Cats With Thumbs.

Like most of the posts on this "art" blog it has nothing to do with arts but...ITS TOTALLY FREAKING AWESOME !!!!!! (and i never use exclamation marks)

Watch this and feel complete.

(i really, really like cats)

I'm tired of interesting faces and the dull ones make me weep.

I haven't managed to paint a decent portrait in ages,  its driving me fucking crazy, never mind depressed. I think i need to take some decent pictures and actually plan what i want to paint. Im getting that desperate im painting a photo that i found on the facebook of a guy i had a one night stand with.....i am a total fucking creep.

I want to paint pictures that are like people from books, Zoo Fever from "Other Voices, Other Rooms" for example. I want to paint a crazy black woman with a scarred neck againts a blood coloured southern sky...and im going to.

And thanks to Joan Baez for the lyric.

Polly Williams.

Lovely girl, lovely illustrations.

The Cover Of My Dreams.

This is the "To Kill A Mockingbird" cover i was on about, its so lovely. I want to be an illustrator.

Pike Again.

My favourite of Pike's paintings.

Jonthan Pike.

Pike is a sort of landscape watercolourist. His paintings of decaying buildings are incredibly detailed and use wonderful colours. Theres a link to Pike's blog in my blog links.

Joel Ely "Girl With Octopus".

I think this is a really beautiful image, very traditionally painted but with an interesting subect matter.

Wednesday 9 March 2011

Amedeo Modigliani.

One of my favourite paintings, my mother painted a copy of it in pastel and it hangs on our living room wall, she has a pretty laid back attitude to sex and nudity...probaly why i'm a total slag.

Anyway...stunning painting.

His paintings are just beautiful.

Julianne Moore in A Single Man.

Shes beautiful anyway but in this film based on a novel by Christopher Isherwood, she looks particularly stunning.

And here she is playing a character based on Joan Baez in the Bob Dylan "bipoic" "I'm Not There".

To Kill A Mockingbird Covers.

Fantastic book, fantastic covers.

(I cant find the one im on about, which means ive either dreamnt it, made it up, or google images are just shit, either way damn)
