Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World" is one of my favourite paintings, its so beautifully painted and it contains so much mystery. The story behind the painting is that Wyeth saw Christina Olsen, a polio sufferer crawling through a field. Although the subject in the painting is young Olsen was 55 when Wyeth created the work.
The painting like so many of Wyeths other works incredibly romantic and also strongly American.
Sadly Wyeth died in January 2009, but he remains as one of Americas most iconic and successful painters.
